The Hyderabad airport has introduced the self-baggage drop facility to provide you with a seamless travel experience. Passengers can avail of this facility at entry gate number 9 inside the airport.

How Does It Work?: Proceed to the self-bag drop unit at gate 9 after attaching the tag to your bag. Pillars of Apathy

The neglected 1000-year-old Jaina sculptures attached to a sluice were waiting to be discovered! This archaeological find is similar to the long-lost diadem of Ravenclaw being found on an ugly bust inside the come-and-go room in Hogwarts. The sculptures of the 4 Jain Tirthankaras were found on two square pillars neglected near the Hyderabad outskirts of Enikepalli village. This village comes under the Moinabad mandal in Rangareddy district.
1000-Year-Old Sculptures: The historic archaeological find is a courtesy to P Sainath Reddy, a young archeologist and heritage activist. Based on his information, archeologist and CEO of Pleach India Foundation, E Sivanagireddy examined the pillars. Four Jain Tirthankaras were found carved into the four sides of the two pillars. The pillars, one of granite and the other of black basalt had the sculptures of the following Tirthankaras - Adinatha, Neminatha, Parsvanatha and Vardhamana Mahavira – seated in a meditative pose.
Forgotten Page of History: The pillars carry inscriptions in the Telugu-Kannada script. Some of the script could not be deciphered as they are fitted to the walls of the sluice of the village tank. The visible part of the scripture points to a Jain monastery that existed close to Chilukuru. The area was a prominent Jaina centre during the Rashtrakuta and Vemulawada Chalukyan times (9-10th Century CE).

A Regular Monsoon Phenomenon

In a geospatial study that unfolded like a treasure hunt, researchers discovered that a whopping 5% of Hyderabad is flirting with the possibility of flooding. This 2020 study undertaken post the 2019 Hyderabad floods shows that 5% of the city faces a high risk of flooding, 93% is at moderate risk and the remaining 2% has a low risk of flooding. This new risk to the city is attributed to the rapid urbanization and change in land use.
Risk of Floods: A co-author of the study, Mohammed Faizan states Hyderabad was not prone to flooding earlier. But the rapid change in land use patterns and urbanization has made the entire city susceptible to flooding. Most of the areas around Hussian Sagar Lake, the Musi River, and Charminar come under the 5% high-risk zone. A majority of the low-risk zones are near Jubilee Hills.
Research Methodology: The study, published in the International Journal of Hydrology and Science, used 12-14 parameters to check for the susceptibility of an area to flood. The study used parameters such as elevation, slope, drainage density, soil type, and others to determine the most influential factors for flood incidence. It also found that slope, drainage patterns, and land use land cover (LULC) were the primary factors that determined the risk of flood incidence.
