Hyderabad Metro to Chug into Old City

Source: The Hindu

The Majlis Party, dominating the old city of Hyderabad, appears to have changed its stance and publicly supports completing the project. The cityscape of Hyderabad showcases the iconic Charminar with historical landmarks such as the Telangana High Court, Legislative Assembly, and metro rail in the foreground.

  • Metro Rail In Old City? Just months ago, BJP legislator T. Raja Singh protested for the government to extend the metro line into the Old City, following the original plan for the Green Line. The Majlis Party, holding political control in the area, now publicly supports completing the project. Previously, they had influenced the government to avoid the original alignment due to religious structures and the need to acquire over 1,000 properties.

  • Anticipating Higher Ridership: Officials believe that extending the line to Falaknuma would have made it easier and cheaper to reach the nearby GMR Hyderabad International Airport, just 15 km away. Despite this, the government chose the more expensive Gachibowli-ORR route, anticipating higher ridership and being willing to pay more.

Animals Battering the Sweltering Heat

Source: The Hans India

With soaring temperatures, Kawal Tiger Reserve's forest officials prioritize animal well-being, ensuring optimal biological processes by providing regular minerals in their diet. Wild creatures rely on naturally occurring edible sources like rocks, branches, and mud near water bodies to acquire sodium and maintain its levels.

  • The Scarcity of Salt in Forest Poses: During summer, salt scarcity in forests poses a significant health risk to animals and birds, whose well-being relies on the sufficient salt intake to prevent illness or death. Ensuring an ample supply of salt becomes crucial for preserving wildlife's health and vitality. Salt licks made of raw salt and tank silt or clay soils can be created near water bodies, allowing animals to instinctively replenish essential minerals and promote overall well-being.

  • Well-Being Suffered: S Madhava Rao, Forest Development Officer, Jannaram, Mancherial district, stressed the negative impact of obtaining salt from chemical companies on animal health. He emphasized the importance of safe and beneficial salt for their well-being. Insufficient salt and mineral consumption harm animals' and birds' productivity, fertility, immune systems, growth, cognitive functions, and vitality. Ensuring adequate intake is crucial for their optimal functioning and well-being.
