Securing Hyderabad’s Water Supply

The Sunkishala intake well project, a crucial component of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project, is progressing rapidly to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Greater Hyderabad until 2050. With 60 percent of the project work completed, this project estimated to cost Rs 2215 crore is expected to be completed by March 2024.

  • Ensuring Water Supply: The Sunkishala intake project, located near Nagarjuna Sagar in Nalgonda district, is essential in securing an adequate drinking water supply, even during periods of insufficient monsoon rainfall for up to five years. It addresses the lack of permanent arrangements for existing KDWSP schemes and will draw water from depths below the minimum drawdown level (MDDL) of 510 feet.

  • Project Progress: Around 60 percent of the project work has been completed. This includes the construction of the intake well, pumping station, transmission mains, and electro-mechanical works. Excavation and concrete works for the pump house and intake shaft have been finished. Intake tunnels at various depths have been completed or are under construction. Additionally, pipelines are being laid for the transmission mains and the procurement is in progress.

Hyderabad contributed 3000 participants. The participants included people with visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and autism.

  • International Acclaim: An official statement from the social empowerment ministry read Mass Yoga performance by Divyangjan creates the record for the maximum number of people with physical and mental disabilities performing yoga together at an event. The record was evaluated and India entered the records for mass yoga participation in the International World Book of Records, Asia Book of Records, and India Book of Records.
