Largest Private Rail Coach Factory

India’s largest private rail coach factory was inaugurated by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Kondakal village near Hyderabad. The factory has been set up by Medha Servo Drives Private Limited, a Telangana based company that designs and manufactures complex electrical and electronic railway products.

• Private Rail Coach Factory: The Medha Group signed an MoU with the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation to establish the private rail coach factory. The factory spread over 100 acres has a production capacity of 500 coaches and 50 locomotives per year. Various types of railways rolling stock including coaches, train sets, locomotives, metro trains and monorails will be manufacture here. 1000 Crore Investment: Medha Group has committed a total of Rs 1000 crore for the railway coach factory. In the first phase, Rs 400 crore has been invested. The factory currently employs 558 workers and has created 500 indirect jobs. The Medha Group plans to hire an additional 1000 people in the near future.

Lifeline for BP Patients

Dr V Rajasekhar of Yashoda Hospitals is pioneering a novel renal therapy to treat patients suffering from chronic hypertension. This new treatment is beneficial for patients unable to control their blood pressure despite taking a cocktail of medicines. The new treatment is still in a nascent stage and is being offered to a few select patients in Hyderabad.

• Novel Hypertension Treatment: Dr Rajasekhar is pioneering the novel Renal Denervation Therapy to treat patients suffering from hypertension. He believes this treatment has the potential to become the standard mode of treatment for patients who struggle with resistant hypertension. Giving some hope to these patients, Dr Rajasekhar citing the success story of a patient on 3 hypertension medicines said the treatment is yielding good results.

• What Does It Entail?: Renal Denervation Therapy is a minimally invasive process and does not involve major surgery. The procedure is carried out by interventional cardiologists who use a catheter to send RF energy to renal arteries. The therapy targets overactive nerves near the kidney to reduce their hyperactivity and regulate the blood pressure levels.

Defence Hurdle for Traffic Decongestion

The Municipal Administration Minister for Telangana K T Rama Rao is on a two-day visit to the national capital. The minister aims to remove the bottlenecks for various pending projects in Telangana. He met with the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to expedite the transfer of 160 acres of defence land to the Telangana government to facilitate the development of public infrastructure.

• Defence Land Deterrent: The rise of cantonments within the city limits has created a situation, which the defence lands at times prove to be a hindrance to infrastructure development. The proposed elevated corridors, skywalks, and road expansion projects are facing hurdles due to delayed land acquisition despite submissions from the government. To clear these bottlenecks, state minister K T Rama Rao met Defence Minster Rajnath to transfer the requested 160 acres of defence land in exchange for equally viable land outside the city.

• Proposed Projects: There a plethora of projects in the pipeline to decongest and streamline vehicular movement in the city. The minister emphasised on the need for 94.2 acres of land to complete the 18.4 km skyway between Jubilee Bus Stand and Rajiv Rahadari. And another 56 acres for the 18.35 km skywalk between Patny and Kandlakoya. Several small portions of land were sought to create link roads across the city.

Preamble Runs Afoul

The printing of the old Preamble of the Constitution prior to the 42nd Constitutional Amendment in Telangana State Board textbooks has led to the teachers working in government schools vehemently expressing their displeasure. The teachers are demanding strict action against SCERT officials who failed to spot the discrepancy and a recall of all the textbooks.

• Old Preamble: The printing of original Preamble that did not have the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ prior to the 42nd Amendment got printed in the SCERT textbooks. The teachers expressed their annoyance over it and demand a complete rollback of the textbooks. They want the SCERT to reprint the textbooks all over again. A government teacher, M Yadagiri said the SCERT needs to explain how did this happen!
  

• Demand for Inquiry: Various teacher organisations including Telangana Progressive Teachers Front (TPTF), Telangana United Teachers Federation (UTF) lashed out at the SCERT for this mistake. The general secretary of UTF Chava Ravi said, “An inquiry needs to be conducted on how the old preamble was printed and action should be initiated against those responsible.
