Buses Unfit, Parents Concerned
Source: The Hans India
Parents' minds are in havoc with the unfavorable school transport arrangements. About 25,000 school buses are estimated to be operational in school districts in the city and only 30% of these have undergone fitness tests. These tests are a testament to prioritizing the safety of students and aimed to minimize the severity of injuries if things start to look down in any case.
Slacking on Safety Measures: Parents are up in a bunch with the early reopening of schools, amid a heatwave no less. And a large number of buses not being safe and fit enough for children is only adding to the fire. A Hyderabad School Parents Association member, A. Murali questioned this negligence and emphasized that this inspection should have been concluded before schools reopened and not in a mere 15-day period after.
Key RTA Inspections: The Road Transport Authority is to conduct fitness tests for buses based on a few key parameters including the bus's color, insignia dimensions, emergency exits, entry steps, service doors, opening emergency doors, and more. Importance has also been laid to displaying contact numbers of school buses for the school management as well as the relevant RTA office. Adhering to these measures will ease parents' worries and escalate children's security.
