Durgam Cheruvu Tripping Over Drugs

Durgam Cheruvu, Hyderabad's picturesque lake, is now more than just a serene water body – it's your one-stop shop for a unique blend of sewage and recreational drugs! Who needs a regular lake when you can have an eclectic mix of waste and substances?

Startling Revelation: A study by researchers from the civil engineering departments of Mahindra University and IIT Hyderabad examining water samples from Durgam Cheruvu. led to an unexpected finding. They found the lake water laced with heavy doses of anti-depressants, pain killers and even cocaine.

A Cocktail of Medicines: The study found a total of 183 compounds of micro-organic pollutants in the samples. The long list includes pharmaceuticals, hormones, steroids, cyanotoxins, and metabolites. Pharmaceuticals emerged as the largest pollutant with a 50% concentration.
