Fuelling the Future

The Biogas plant in Bowenpally market, Secunderabad is an innovative and sustainable project that converts food waste into biogas. This biogas is used to fuel the market's canteen, saving costs, while reducing greenhouse emissions and improving the cleanliness of the market.

From Veggies to Power: Every single day, the Bowenpally market produces about 12,000 kgs of food waste! Instead of ending up as garbage, they're transformed into a source of clean fuel. It's like a superhero origin story but for vegetables: one day they're discarded in the market, and the next, they're powering up the neighborhood.

Saved Over 22 Tonnes of LPG: The biogas plant doesn't just reduce waste but also offers a sustainable fuel alternative. The plant has processed more than 10,000 tonnes of vegetable waste and saved 22 tonnes of LPG in the process. “We have generated more than 3 lakh units of electricity. By preventing waste from ending up in landfills, we have saved more than 4,000 tonnes of carbon-dioxide-equivalent greenhouse emissions,” Dr Sandeep Karajanagi says.

Sustainable Cooling Initiative

New Indian Express

In the race against global warming, Telangana has pulled a cool move: unveiling a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Sustainable Cooling. The CoE aims to make things chill in more ways than one, targeting improvements in cold-chain systems.

Cold-Chain Systems: Addressing the hot issue of ineffective cold storage, the Telangana government has opened the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling. With a focus on innovative solutions, the CoE is set to improve cold-chain systems vital for the agriculture and healthcare sectors. It's almost like giving the cold storage industry a swanky new fridge, with better features and energy efficiency.

Big Impact: The initiative is more than just ensuring your ice cream doesn't melt. By enhancing the efficiency of the cold-chain system, Telangana strides towards reducing food wastage, ensuring vaccine potency, and even curbing greenhouse gas emissions. So, it's not just about keeping things frosty; it's about a sustainable future that doesn't get too "heated".
