Telangana State Adopts Orphans

Move over, regular adoption! Telangana has a grand plan to elevate the status of orphans by adopting them as "Rashtra Biddalu" (wards of the state). This is a first-of-its-kind policy initiative undertaken by a State government to improve child welfare.

• Refreshing Change: In India, almost 20% of children below the age of 6 are orphaned. Often ignored, it was refreshing to see the Telangana government bring out a state policy for their welfare. The government is set to bring a comprehensive act to provide better living conditions for orphaned children.

• Ward of the State: Children adopted by the State will be known as Rashtra Biddalu (children of the State). The act proposed by the government envisions the setting up of integrated education campuses like Gurukuls to provide KG-to-PG education for children.

Noah Hyderabad’s Ark

Hyderabad now houses a modern-day version of Noah's Ark - the "National Wildlife Genetic Resource Bank" at CCMB's Laboratory of Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES). This quirky facility cryo-preserves the genetic material of every animal in India, offering a genetic legacy filled with humor for the future.

• Modern-Day “Noah’s Ark”: The genetic resource bank in Hyderabad preserves living cell lines, gametes, and embryos of endangered and non-endangered species. With liquid nitrogen chilling the genetic material to minus 195 degrees Celsius, the facility promises to be a valuable reference for cutting-edge genetic research.

• Frozen Zoo: Learning from the Frozen Zoo in San Diego, the researchers established this one-of-a-kind preservation facility. With collaboration from multiple Indian Zoo facilities, the project aims to secure India's wildlife genetic resources for posterity, leaving a lasting, informative, and humorous impression for generations to come.

Formula E Fuels Local Economy

A report by Nielsen suggests Formula E has given Hyderabad's economy an electrifying boost of 84 million dollars. The Hyderabad E-Prix race hosted as a part of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship watched live in over 150 countries has given a boost to the local economy.

• Staggering Numbers: Over 31,000 spectators thronged to Hyderabad to witness the 2023 Greenko Hyderabad E-Prix. A majority of these spectators, 59% of them traveled down to Hyderabad generating significant inward income. $4 million were spent only on accommodation and hotels.

• E-Prix Returning In 2024: Alberto Longo, Co-founder & Chief Championship Officer of Formula E has stated the Formula E team is working hard to secure commitments that would enable the race to come to Hyderabad in 2024.

Beluga Lands in Hyderabad

The Airbus Beluga, the whale-sized cargo aircraft, touched down at Hyderabad Airport on Wednesday, leaving spectators in awe at its bulbous appearance.

• Whale-Shaped Plane Lands: The Beluga whale-shaped plane excels in transporting oversized air cargo. Hyderabad Airport joyfully hosted the Airbus Beluga once again, making special arrangements for its landing, parking, and take-off, marking its second visit in eight months.

• Airport Hosts Aircraft: Last year in December, the airport hosted the aircraft, following the arrival of the world's largest cargo aircraft, the Antonov An-225, in Hyderabad in 2016. The airport's selection was based on its impressive infrastructure and technical prowess.
