QR Code for Safer Roads
Source: The Hans India
Instead of trying to escape death traps like the Road Runner, the Road Reader project launched by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) looks to introduce accountability and make roads safer. Under the project, QR codes will be installed on road signages to improve grievance redressal at urban local bodies.
Scan the QR Code: QR codes attached to road signages will provide details of the road and the officials responsible for maintaining it. The scanned QR code leads the user to a webpage that has the names and contact details of contractors and municipal officials responsible for the road.
Citizen Suggestion: The project inspired by a similar one undertaken by the Bengaluru municipal corporation was suggested to state Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao by a Twitter user. Acting on the same, the minister issued instructions to the Mayor & MAUD secretary to implement the project.

Despite a growing pet culture in the city, indigenous canines as pets are becoming a rarity. The preference for exotic and foreign dog breeds has made indigenous dog breeds a sight for sore eyes. As per GHMC data, there are about 50,000 pet dogs inside the GHMC limits.
Change in Lifestyle: The influx of foreign breeds has come at the cost of local breeds such as Rajapalyam, Chippiparai, and Jonangi. The latest research shows for every 100 dog owners with a foreign breed, there is only one with an Indian breed.
Choice & Skepticism: The choice of dog breeds also comes down to owners’ requirements. Sai Krishna, a pet owner stated he preferred a German Shephard for a guard dog and expressed his skepticism over a native dog fulfilling the need.
