Unwavering Bond With Grandma

Source: Architectural Digest

Every corner buzzes with excitement as the festive season comes alive. Traditions come to life when each family celebrates its own unique tradition along with the traditional muggu (rangoli), mango leaf garlands, and whatnot! In Deepti Kolla’s home, the central pillar decorated by her grandmother was the centerpiece of all festivities. She tries to keep this memory alive with her in their chic, green family home.

  • Carrying A Legacy Forward: The credit for keeping the memory of Deepti’s grandmother alive goes to architect Sona Reddy. The grandmother’s central pillar in Deepti’s childhood home was adorned with garlands of jasmine and chrysanthemum. The central pillar is replicated within the house by a modern contemporary installation that mirrors the original. The memory is captured by a permanent custom totem embellished with Chennapatna-style lacquer balls inspired by the flowers used by Deepti’s grandmother.

  • Verdure House: As their dream of a courtyard-style house with vegetation was curtailed by space, the walls of the house are painted in different shades of green. And they have tried to create a courtyard setting within the house. The setting of their living room is preluded by a courtyard and a water body. The skylight is just the right top-off to their aesthetic space!
